Sorry about the scanned book covers.....I wanted you to see exactly which book I was talking about....This book, When you Eat at the Refrigerator, Pull up a Chair. Made perfect sense to me. I have read it twice now in the past week. Here are some of the things I learned.1. Fat or thin is a "shorthand" for inner stages of the mind and heart.
2. Remember, thin people have cellulite, get old, and die
3. Act on your own behalf, you have to be your advocate.
4. Enjoy life at whatever stage you are in. Enjoy what is in front of you.
5. Celebrate being alive, you have arms and legs that can move.
6. We are not our thoughts.
7. You are more capable of more greatness than you ever imagined.
Geneen talks about "food" as her drug of choice, it could be shopping, alcohol or whatever addiction that keeps you from being your best self.
The chapters are 1-2 pages long which made it great to sit and read just a few pages at a time so you could absorb them.
This is the book Oprah was talking about on her show, and although I have just started reading it, I am glad I read the other first. Woman, Food and God is a lot deeper. But both have been good. ANYWAY....just thought I would share.

Sheri,
Thanks for sharing the first book with us - the title really caught my eye. I have "dieted" all my adult life - without success most of the time. I am finally trying to believe how good I really am - even with being very overweight. At this point in my life, I just want to get healthy. It sounds like that may be where you are at too! Best wishes for both of us ;)
thanks for sharing those points. I saw the show with the 2nd book. Very interesting.
I have been a fan of Geneen Roth for years. She has such a great way to writting! I too saw her on Oprah and went right out to buy the book. I am in the middle of another one and will start it soon. She makes so much sense. I love how she makes me ask myself why? Why do I use food as a crutch? Love your post!
Years and years ago I read Roth's first books. Glad to see she's still current. I'm now reading "The End of Overeating: Taking Control of the Insatiable American Appetite" by David Kessler. It's pretty interesting too, but less from an emotional base--more a scientific base.
I got my book in the mail yesterday. I'm excited to sit down and read and study. Thanks for sharing. And I have my special book to write quotes from the book in. Excited to be enlightened! I knew you are my friend for a reason. And your quilt looks like so much fun. Enjoy sewing!
Fate? Not sure if I believe in it however I am having a "rough" day and found this post a few days late but just in time for me. Thanks for reviewing these books. I am definitely getting the first one - need a little help taking care of me occasionally. Thanks Sheri and have a great day!
p.s. I know it's a rough day when I don't even feel like sewing.
